Make these Sauteed Green Beans in a skillet in minutes, for a quick, healthy and delicious side dish! Cooked with butter, garlic and seasoning this recipe will turn anyone into a green beans fan.

This is a great quick vegetable dish, just like my Steamed Broccoli, Fried Cabbage or Sauteed Spinach.

Green beans in a skillet.

Green beans are one of the most affordable yet underrated vegetables. We are all used to buying them in a can and heating up. Let me tell you how to make a delicious side dish with FRESH green beans in minutes! This recipe shows you can enjoy fresh green beans and ditch the canned stuff. Just like I did in my Green Bean Casserole from scratch. All you need is one skillet and a few ingredients you most likely have on hand already.

TIP: Fresh green beans do not have a long shelf life so I recommend cooking them as soon as you buy them.

Ingredients:

  • green beans: fresh, not canned
  • butter: adds rich flavor
  • olive oil: best for sauteing vegetables
  • garlic: fresh minced or from a jar
  • seasoning: Italian seasoning, salt, pepper

How to make Sauteed Green Beans?

  • Start by washing green beans. Trim the ends.
  • Place green beans in skillet and add water.
  • Bring to a boil and cook for 5 to 6 minutes. The longer you cook them, the softer the beans will be. For crisp tender beans, 5 minutes is perfect.
  • Remove the beans and dry the skillet.
  • Add oil and butter to skillet.

  • Once the butter is melted, add garlic to the pan and sautee until fragrant and golden.
  • Add Italian seasoning and cook, stirring, for 1 to 2 minutes. This activates the dry herbs.
  • Add beans to pan and stir in. Sautee for 4 to 5 minutes.
  • Serve.

What to serve with Sauteed Green Beans?

This side dish is perfect with pretty much any meat dish: baked salmon foil packets, grilled chicken, tuna cakes, lemon chicken, air fryer fried chicken, crispy coconut chicken and so many more.

Variations:

  • add onions and bacon for another level of flavor
  • add lemon and cherry tomatoes and cook with beans until they burst
  • add Parmesan cheese at the end of cooking
