Salmon on a foil on a plate.

If you are a beginner cook or need something quick and easy, with minimal prep and mess to clean up afterward, these Salmon Foil Packets are for you! This simple technique is great for any cut of the fish, even the inexpensive ones. It's an easy way to cook salmon, especially if want to make a delicious and impressive meal. You can cook it in the oven or on the grill.

    Ingredients:

    • salmon: any cut or size
    • lemon: fresh, sliced thin
    • garlic: fresh minced or grated
    • butter: I used unsalted
    • salt and pepper
    Ingredients on a plate.

How to bake salmon in foil packets?

    • Start by preheating the oven to 400 degrees F.
    • Prepare sheets of aluminum foil, one per piece of salmon.
    • Arrange salmon on foil. Season with salt and peppers.
    • Place lemon slices and butter on top of each piece of fish.
    • Bring the sides of foil together to make packets.
    • Cook for 18 to 20 minutes in the oven.
    • Once done, remove from the oven and baking sheet. Wait a few minutes until the packets are cooler and safer to handle.
    • Serve with veggies, rice or pasta.

Why should I cook salmon in packets?

It's not only a mess-free way to cook this fish, but also prevents it from drying out. The salmon fillets are juicy since they are steamed in the packets (along with the seasoning).

What vegetables can I add to these packets?

Any veggies that cook fairly quickly will work here: broccoli, asparagus, thinly sliced potatoes, green beans, etc. If you don't want them steamed in a packet, roast them on a baking sheet on the second rack in your oven.

    Storing leftovers:

Any leftovers should be stored in a container with lid, in the fridge for no longer than 3 days.

Hi - it looks delicious. What do you do with the garlic - mix it with the butter first or just add on top with the butter and lemon? Thanks Lisa
