Instant Pot Turkey Breast Recipe - juicy turkey breast cooked in pressure cooker in just 35 minutes! The best way to save time preparing Thanksgiving dinner.

I serve this turkey breast with my Instant Pot Cranberry Sauce, Sweet Corn Casserole and use the leftovers to make Turkey Tetrazzini.

Overhead shot of sliced turkey breast on white serving plate, with Instant Pot in the background.

When I said, that the Instant Pot digital pressure cooker can change your life, I meant it. It's been saving me time in the kitchen since I got it. But this Instant Pot Turkey Breast is a game-changer on a whole new level. I can cook a whole bone-in skin-on turkey breast in my pressure cooker in ⅓ of the time I would take me to roast it in the oven. I can bake side dishes in the oven in the meantime.

    INSTANT POT TURKEY BREAST

The turkey comes out juicy and flavorful, the pan drippings are perfect to make the gravy and if the crispy skin is your favorite part, place the turkey breast under the broiler for a few minutes. I also have a recipe for a boneless turkey breast that cooks from frozen to juicy!

HOW TO COOK TURKEY BREAST IN INSTANT POT?

You won't believe how easy it is to cook a turkey breast in the digital pressure cooker. I still can't!

    • Add two cups of broth or stock to the bottom of the Instant Pot insert. Add sliced onion, garlic and celery.
    • Set the turkey breast side up in the trivet ( it came with your pressure cooker ) and brush it with herbed and spiced olive oil. It's a simple mixture of oil, paprika, salt, pepper and poultry herb mix ( thyme, rosemary and sage ).
    • Place lid on the Instant Pot, set valve to sealing position. Press "manual" and set it the timer.
    • When the IP is done, let the pressure release naturally. It will keep the turkey moist. Once the pressure pin is down, carefully open the lid away from your face. Check the temperature of the turkey in it's thickest part, not touching the bone. It should be at least 165 degrees F.
    • Remove turkey from Instant Pot and broil for a crispy skin, if desired. For a low fat option, remove the skin and slice the meat.
    • Make gravy with liquid remaining in the Instant Pot.

Turkey Breast in an Instant Pot.

HOW LONG DO YOU COOK TURKEY BREAST IN INSTANT POT?

My turkey breast weighs about 7 lbs and the 35 minutes was perfect. You should check the turkey with a digital thermometer once done to make sure the temperature is at minimum 165 degrees F in the thickest part of the breast. This size of the turkey breast also fit perfectly in my 6 qt Instant Pot. After the timer beeps, let the pressure release naturally. It will keep the turkey juicy. If you do a quick pressure release, all of the juices will escape the meat. Set turkey on cutting board and let cool. Remove skin and slice the meat.

If the crispy skin is your favorite part of the Thanksgiving bird, place the cooked turkey breast on a baking pan or dish and set under the broiler for a few minutes. I set my broiler to 440 degrees F and watched the turkey the whole time.

I have the Instant Pot DUO60 6qt and love it. ( affiliate link )

HOW TO MAKE TURKEY GRAVY IN INSTANT POT?

To make the gravy, drain the pan drippings through a sieve to catch the onions and garlic. You can also press them through it to get all the flavor into the gravy. Measure out two cups of the liquid and place back in the Instant Pot insert. Add a mixture of 2 tablespoons or cornstarch with ¼ cup of cold water and whisk well. Saute until thickens. You can use the rest of the liquid from cooking the turkey for soups later. I simply place it in ziploc bag once it completely cools. It's a very flavorful broth and perfect for making soups during winter.

SIDE DISHES TO SERVE WITH TURKEY BREAST:

    - mashed potatoes: If you are lucky and have two Instant Pots, I highly recommend making my IP Mashed Potatoes as a side dish. It's the only way I cook them now. Perfect every time!

    - roasted Brussels sprouts: my Garlic Parmesan Roasted Brussels Sprouts are perfect for Thanksgiving! Even the kids will love them.

    - carrots: my Brown Sugar Roasted Carrots are a family favorite here. So easy and so delicious!

    - green beans: my classic Green Bean Casserole made entirely from scratch yet still super easy and accidentally gluten free ( completely if you use GF fried onions ) is a must for a family holiday dinner.

    - hashbrowns: this Hashbrown Casserole makes for a perfect side dish in place of mashed potatoes. It's cheesy and creamy and everyone loves it!

    - stuffing: my Slow Cooker Sausage Stuffing is another time and work saver in the kitchen during the holidays. It's perfect for this Instant Pot Turkey Breast!

Side shot of sliced turkey breast with gravy on white platter.

    HOW TO USE LEFTOVER TURKEY?

After cooking up the big feast, you won't feel like spending much time in the kitchen on the following days. Save the turkey meat, dice it and use in my One Pot Turkey Tetrazzini recipe. It's perfect to use the leftover turkey meat!

Instant Pot Chicken Noodle Soup - use turkey in place of chicken for a perfect soul-comforting soup.

    Ingredients

    • 7 lb bone-in skin-on turkey breast
    • 3 Tablespoons olive oil
    • ¾ teaspoon paprika
    • 2 teaspoon chopped poultry fresh herb mix rosemary, sage and thyme
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
    • 2 cups chicken broth
    • 1 medium onion chopped into large slices
    • 4 garlic cloves
    • 2 celery stalks

    Instructions

    • Add chicken broth to Instant Pot insert. Place trivet inside. Arrange onions, garlic and celery.
    • In a small bowl or measuring cup, mix oil, paprika, herb mix, salt and pepper.
    • Wash the turkey breast, remove gravy pocket. Wash and pat dry. Brush turkey breast with olive oil mixture. Place in the trivet, breast side up.
    • Place lid on Instant Pot. Set valve the sealing. Press "manual", set timer to 35 minutes High Pressure.
    • When the IP beeps, press "cancel/off" and let the pressure release naturally. It will keep the turkey juicy.
    • When pressure is released, open lid carefully, away from your face.
    • Using large fork, remove turkey from pressure cooker. Set on a cutting board, serving platter or if desired on a baking pan, to crisp up the skin in the oven. To do so: place cooked turkey breast in the oven under broiler set to 440 degrees F. Broil until skin is golden and crispy, watching the turkey the whole time. You may have to rotate the pan during broiling.
    • To make the gravy, drain the pan drippings through a sieve to catch the onions and garlic. You can also press them through it to get all the flavor into the gravy. Measure out two cups of the liquid and place back in the Instant Pot insert. Add a mixture of 2 tablespoons or cornstarch with ¼ cup of cold water and whisk well. Saute until thickens.

I was skeptical about this recipe but, its only 2 of this year so what the hell, lets go for it. So glad I did, one of the best turkeys I have made. 30 minutes to cook
40 minutes for the steam to release. I'll never cook turkey breast any other way.

This is the second time to try this recipe. Both times were exceptional results. First time 3 lb butterball breat and second 6 lb bone-in. Did use air fryer to get brown cripsy skin for 8 minutes. Flavor with fresh herbs and moisture of turkey was a huge hit with everyone. Definitely a keeper.

Thanksgiving is not a meal where I try to experiment too much...but this experiment turned out great! The 7.4 lb turkey breast took 22 minutes to pressurize, cooked 35 mins, and took 35 to natural release. It was delicious! The meat stayed moist and was very flavorful. Thanks so much for this recipe! Happy Thanksgiving!

Last year I accidentally steam cooked my turkey breast with broth and it was the best breast I have ever eaten. No crispy skin but who cares. Moist and tasted so good. Anyone heard of this method. Is pressure cooking similar?!

I made this this morning so my son could take turkey to his class’ Thanksgiving party. It was a perfectly quick (for turkey) recipe and I used the broth and tapioca starch to make a paleo/more allergy friendly gravy for the kiddos.

Question; I read a few comments by people who crisped their skin right in their instant pot (various brands) and since my broiler isn't working, I have a Mueller 10-in-1 6 Quart model that came with a "Crisping lid." I would this by the name that it would work for crisping the turkey skin, but I've never used it before so I wanted to ask someone with more experience than do using an instant pot. Thanks in advance for any help!

Can you cook the turkey breast and slice it a day ahead of time? I was wondering if the meat remains juicy after refrigeration, and how I would go about reheating it? I have 3 bone-in turkey breasts I am cooking for our family gathering this year and it would be really helpful if I could do it the day before Thanksgiving.

Hi Joann! You can certainly cook and slice the turkey a day ahead, but it won't be juicy as one served after cooking. That's the nature of turkey. To keep it moist, you could pour the stock or pan drippings over it, then refrigerate. Reheat it with the liquids. I hope this helps!

Tomorrow, I'm going to brine the turkey breast before pressure cooking it. This might help with the turkey breast being juicy the second day. I've always brined turkey breast before smoking or indirectly cooking on the grill.

I leave a comment at the top with the results of brining before pressure cooking.

          Best regards, Karl

              Anna,

I cooked and SLICED my turkey breast on Wednesday. Today is Friday. The turkey breast was just as juicy Friday as on Wednesday.

Brining the turkey breast is the key.

I did layer the slices and added some gravy to each layer.

I really like this method of cooking when a smoker is not available.

I'm having guests for Thanksgiving for the first time ever this year! I've used this recipe for my family and it has been amazing, so this is my first pick recipe for this event. Question though: I'd like to do a bigger turkey breast since there's more of us. Can you make size and cook time suggestions for this recipe in an 8qt instant pot instead please? I appreciate your thoughts and expertise!

I had my doubts but this was so easy and fast! I cooked a 6 lb bone in turkey breast and it did fill up my Instant Pot, don't think I could have gotten a larger one in there. Make sure your turkey breast is fully thawed. I served with a side of roasted root vegetables and it was delicious. I love being able to eat turkey for lunch that's not deli turkey with all the unnatural ingredients. Excellent, thank you!

I made this for Christmas 2020. I subbed dried herbs for fresh (what I had on hand). I had trouble fitting my 6lb turkey breast in the Instant Pot with the veggies but squeezed it in and it came out perfect. I could not get over how juicy the meat was. I saved the stock for soup instead of making gravy. I will definitely make this again in the future.

Excellent recipe! I have made this 4-5 times now & my husband asks for it whenever he craves turkey.
I don't normally like gravy, but this one is lean and has so much flavor. I don't strain out the onion/celery, just give them a good blitz with an immersion blender.

I've been making turkeys for 40 years but due to the gathering restrictions this year, 2020, I got just a turkey breast. I followed your instructions until the part where you said to remove the meat from the Instant Pot and put under the broiler. Since I just got a new Instant pot/air fryer combo, I just changed lids and selected 8 minutes and broil. Man, I wish I'd taken a picture. It was perfect. We all thought the turkey was the best we'd ever had. Thank you for this fantastic recipe. Theresa

I don't comment on anything but had to on this. This was INCREDIBLE!!! Did Thanksgiving on Friday and had an almost 6 lb bone in breast. Set it for 31 mins, natural release and then under the broiler. It was also my first time using my instant pot!!! I was scared and excited. Now I feel like I can conquer all. Hahaha. Thank you!!

I’m going to try this tomorrow with my MIL toastmaster instant pot. It doesn’t have a trivet, if I put carrots/onions/celery in the bottom of the insert, that should still work right?
We have a 6.5 # breast and I’m excited to show her how to use her “IP”.

I tried it without the trivet last night, putting the turkey on the cut up veg. I only had 3 large pieces of turkey, 2 dark, and I did 6 minutes per pound. Absolutely perfect and SO much better than oven roasted… not to mention it’s too hot to turn on the oven! Thanks for this!

If you don’t have a trivet crumble up some aluminum foil and place it under the turkey breast. It will act the same. In addition you could make a sling out of aluminum foil (find instructions on utube) to facilitate getting the hot breast out of the InstaPot.

Does the max fill line apply to cooking meat or just anything that expands?

I bought a 7.54lb turkey breast for my 6 qt instant pot. The turkey was over the max fill line so I was real nervous about it. I ended up cutting the breast from the bone and cooking just the breast. I am a newbie to using an instant pot. The recipe was wonderful and the breast turned out great.

The max fill is for liquid, as long as the cover seals over the meat, you're fine

My first time cooking the turkey and I was very nervous. I cooked a 6.6 lb bone-in turkey breast and it came out perfect. I did have to add an extra 5 minutes to the time, but other than that followed the recipe exactly. My family loved it. Thanks for the wonderful recipe. Can't wait to have some leftovers.

First time I’ve made a deliciously tender and flavorful turkey. I did my own butter/herb mixture and lathered it on inside and outside the skin and followed your cooking instructions. It was such a hit and it could not have been easier. It was so nice to free up the oven space all day while having a perfectly cooked turkey. Even my picky family all thought it was great. Thanks for the wonderful recipe.

Your Instant Pot turkey breast recipe looks great. I can't wait to try it tomorrow. I have 2 questions.
      1. What time would you suggest setting on the Instant Pot for a 3.75 lb bone-in turkey breast? There are only going to be 3 of us this year.
      2. Do you have a recipe for your poultry fresh herb mix with specific quantities or at least ratios?
      Happy Thanksgiving

I am currently waiting for my 5lb turkey to natural release pressure (Doing Thanksgiving 2020 a day early so we can goto Waffle House to add to all the bizarre stories we will look back on). I have an 8qt IP and it took 25 minutes to come to pressure and I'm currently at 26 minutes of NPR. So keep that in mind, depending on what size IP you have. You'll still consider 5 (or 6) minutes of time per pound, no matter what size IP you have. Most IP recipes assume the IP is 6qts. Since mine is 8qts, I needed to add a little more broth to the bottom. As for poultry herb specific breakdowns, you can google it and find many recipes. I don't have everything, but I have Herbs de Provence, and that is a fine substitute. Hope this helps!
P.S. The red pressure button dropped at 33 minutes! Time to broil and eat! 🙂

Hi Jynni! To naturally release means to let the Instant Pot release the pressure by itself. Do not switch the valve. It can take 25 to 33 minutes. I hope this helps!

I gave it a try. I did everything in the recipe but shortened the cooking time to 10 minutes in the ip. I did crisp it up in the oven for a couple of minutes. It did work but because the turkey was smoked, it was hard to taste any of the other ingredients. The turkey came out good and looked fabulous but in the end it seemed too salty due to the smoke. I wouldn't recommend it though it wasn't bad.

OMGosh this was the best turkey breastMe and my family have ever eaten. I really wanted thanksgiving, yes, in July in, Florida. I came across this receipe. I did online shopping and went to pick up my order hoping my turkey breast was small enough to fit in the pot and big enough for my family of three. Well, the turkey was 7.25 pounds and I had to push and manipulate the great to fit. Had to place it on its side and squeezed it in. I was praying it would come to pressure and be as Religous as all the others that tried this receipe. Well we were NOT disappointed in the least bit. It was tender, moist and could cut it with your fork. As a matter of fact as I was pulling out of the pot after making sure it was cooked it was falling apart. I was going to crisp it under the boiler but decided we wanted to eat. Man was it great. My wife couldn’t get enough. We can’t wait until tomorrow to have the left overs. It took 35 minutes to cook about 20 minutes to come to pressure and 25 minutes to NR. EXCELLENT Thank you.

Your oil coating was perfect and your tips about the netting worked great. We did 73 min at pressure for two 3# breasts. We could have done less time and been fine.

Thanks for sharing this recipe! I'm still making friends with my IP, and this was my first attempt at a turkey breast. Fabulous! One of the tastiest (and moistest) turkey breasts I've ever had. I prefer dark meat, but I bought the breast thinking it was a semi-healthier option for sandwiches as opposed to the sodium-laden lunch meat type. So I cooked it this morning, and had a yummy sandwich for lunch. Will have more sandwiches, but am making soup out of the rest. I used 1 tsp each of dried herbs and paprika (didn't have sage, so used an equal amount of poultry seasoning as its a lot of sage on its own), more onions, garlic, and celery as I like them, pressure cooked for 33 mins for a 6.79 lb thawed turkey breast. Perfect! I'm making a recipe card which will be added to my small-but-growing stack of IP recipes. Thanks again!

I have never cooked a turkey breast in the oven or IP, but this year there are 4 rather than 28 of us for Thanksgiving 2020, so I was hoping to find a good IP recipe for the 6 lb turkey breast I bought. I plan to sear mine first and then deglaze with chicken bone broth I am making as I type this. I do this with whole chickens on a regular basis and they turn out great, so I was happy to find similar suggestions for turkey breast . I'll put it up on the trivet and add veggies after deglazing. I have an air fryer lid, so could probably broil it in the pot after to crisp skin more as needed, but I think I'll take it out to rest (and maybe put it under an oven broiler if it could use a little more) while I make a sauce in the IP. I will report back. Thanks for the recipe. The many positive comments are compelling!

I agree with other posters here, this turned out marvelously! I used a 4 1/2 pound turkey breast to be sure it would fit in my 6 quart. I kept it simple, because I honestly did not expect this to be as good as it was. I have had a lot of variation with cooking chicken breasts. So I actually just used water on the pot for my liquid, and rubbed the bird with garlic salt and pepper. It was the best turkey breast I've ever made. I can't remember exactly how long I cooked it, but I think it was about 23 minutes. I will not bake these in the oven again. Next time I will try the ingredients you suggested. It can only get better!

Unlike a slow cooker an instapot comes up to temperature quickly, so no reason you couldn’t put it in frozen. How long you need to cook it per pound is a different issue. Doubt 5mins/lb is quite enough. Think I would add another 5-10mins.

I made this turkey breast recipe over Thanksgiving and it was FABULOUS! It was seasoned sooo good and the broth from it made the most delicious turkey gravy I ever had. The temperature when done was higher than needed, but the turkey was still moist and delicious. I did, as suggested in the recipe, 5 minutes per pound with a total natural release. My turkey breast was just shy of 7 lbs so I pressured it for 34 minutes. Next time I will take off a little more time. This is definitely Going to be my “go to” turkey recipe. Thanks!

Is “poultry fresh herb mix” something you make or bought in a typical grocery? The word “fresh” has me wondering. If homemade, what ratio? Thanks!

Hi Becky! I used a herb mix from the grocery store. It is called fresh because the herbs are not dried (like what you can buy in little bottles). I hope this helps!

Do you have to use the trivet or can you just set the turkey in the pot? Also I have a 10-Qt pot, does that change anything?

Hi Stephanie! If you won't use the trivet, the bottom of the turkey will be submerged in the liquid and in a way it will "boil". Also, check your instructions to make sure what is the required amount of liquid for a 10 qt Instant Pot. I used 6 qt. Hope this helps!

I purchased an IP JUST to try this recipe. I will do a practice run before Thanksgiving. How long did it take to come to pressure? How many minutes did your turkey take during the natural release? I'm just trying to get an idea so I know how long before dinner I should start cooking.
If my turkey is not to proper temp (165 degrees) after the cook time and natural pressure release....what should I do?
Also, can I used dried herbs?
Sorry for all the questions....I would greatly appreciate your help!!

Hi Noemi! I am so excited for you to try this recipe! Definitely do a test run so you know what to expect. For example, you may want to adjust the seasonings to your likings so the Thanksgiving bird is perfect.
It's hard to say exactly how many minutes it will take for the Instant Pot to come to pressure but I would expect it to be anywhere from 12 to 16 minutes. Same for natural pressure release. I would add at least 30 more minutes to the cooking time to include both of those. If the turkey is not at 165 degrees F (most likely it will be higher), close the lid and add 5 to 10 more minutes to cooking time. You can use dried herbs and increase the amount to 3 teaspoons.
I hope this helps! Let me know. I am always happy to help!

Thank you so much for your help!! First time ever using the instant pot. I used an almost 6 lb turkey and it took almost 20 mins to come pressure.
I did have a question. After my turkey was done there was a ton of liquid in the pot....like half full. My turkey looked like it was stewed and the skin was quite soggy (I had the breast sitting cavity side down in the IP, but had to lay it on it's side slightly because it was pretty tall). I tried to crispy up the skin under the broiler but it took almost 10-15 minutes to get it brown but it never got crispy. Is that pretty typical of using a pressure cooker?

I'll be darned! It was amazingly delicious...Weight Watchers doesn't assign many points to turkey breast so I decided to make it for sandwiches. Husband likes dark meat so I didn't figure him in at all. Well, I made the gravy and the aroma floating through the kitchen persuaded him to try it. He really liked it - as did I. I only cut back on the herbs/spices for he doesn't like a lot. It was still delicious. Definitely a keeper!! Thank you for posting.

Hi Michele! I always give myself at least 24 hours to thaw a turkey breast. Just remember to defrost it in the fridge. If it still has some frozen parts after you take it out of the packaging, place it in cold water until it is completely defrosted. I hope this helps!

Hi Kimberly! The Instant Pot will beep a few seconds after you close the lid. It will start coming to pressure. Depending on the model of your Instant Pot, it may beep when it is done and it will start the cooking time (the timer will start). I hope this helps! I suggest you do the water test and a few simple recipes before cooking the turkey breast for Thanksgiving. It will help you familiarize yourself with the pressure cooking process.

Do you leave the "keep warm" button on to keep it warm after it cooks or do you just use the pressure cook and let the pressure come down without the added warmth?

Hi Stephanie! Once the timer is done, press "cancel/off" button and let the Instant Pot release the pressure. Do not switch the valve. Once the pin drops, you can open the lid. I do not keep it at warm during that time.

Hi Becky! The nutritional value is an estimate. A 6 to 7 lb turkey breast will feed 6 to 8 people, so it all depends on how many servings you will serve.

The calorie count states 918. Is this the calorie count for a 7 lb. breast devoured by ONE person or do you divide 918 by the number of actual servings to determine the calorie count per person?

Hi Joyce! The calorie count is per serving, which means if you slice the turkey breast and divide it into 6 servings. Please keep in mind that it is an estimate. You should always use a calorie counter that you are familiar with. I hope this helps!

Thank you for responding. Fortunately I will not be consuming 1.16 Lbs. of turkey per serving. The average serving of turkey is approximately 4 ounces so the calories consumed will be reasonable for anyone that is concerned about their intake. I’m looking forward to trying this recipe.

Five stars! I made this tonight and it came out great. The weight tag on my bird was torn off, so I wasn't exactly sure of the weight. To be safe I cooked it for 38 minutes and did a 10 minute NR. I probably didn't need quite that long, the internal temp was closer to 180 degrees. BUT! Boy was this bird delicious! I didn't bother to broil. The meat was super tender and juicy. I used some fresh sage, rosemary, and dried thyme, plus tons of black pepper and garlic powder in addition to the other seasonings. I made more of the seasoning rub since I ran out on the first side of the bird. Also, I cooked mine breast-side down and stuffed the cavity with a head of garlic, onion, carrots, and celery. I stacked the bird on more veggies and didn't bother with the trivet. Perfect result. Thanks for this super fast and easy recipe for a quick Thanksgiving dinner.

This sounds so tasty. My first time making dinner on thanksgiving. Weee but nervous. Old school cooks have made dinners previous.
So, with that said, I’m feeding traditional people. Who want traditional turkey. Sooo would you say this flavoring and way of cooking will be approved by my guests?!? 😂 I’ve only used IP a handful of times and I’m not confident with times. I need to make sure this is DONE. I read turkey is 6 min per pound plus 10 min NPR. Which would be 55 total. Would that be way too long?

Hi! I've made many turkeys in the oven and the ones I've made in my Instant Pot are always the best. The turkey will be juicy and delicious. You can pop it under the broiler to get the skin crispy. In my experience, bone-in turkey breast needs 5 minutes per pound. The natural release takes about 12 minutes for me. Always check the temperature to make sure it's at least 165 degrees F. I hope this helps! If you have any questions, feel free to email me anytime. I am always happy to help! Good luck! Hi Anna... thank you for sharing your turkey recipe, I made it yesterday. I followed your recipe almost exactly... I didn’t have fresh herbs so I used dry, I let them soak in the olive oil for about 20 minuets before covering the breast. It came out wonderful! I did a 100% n/r, when I checked the internal temperature it was well over 200* but still moist and yummy. Normally I never cook just the breast but I wanted to try your recipe and something other than a pasta recipe in my IP... I would like to add a word of CAUTION: please be very careful when slicing and serving. Due to the process of removing the breast from the rest of the turkey, I’ve found numerous small-very small bone fragments!

The 5 mins per pound didn’t work for me, the turkey was slightly underdone. I’m new to the whole instant pot thing. I let the steam naturally escape and then checked the temp. What should I have done? Put it back on for 5 more mins? I was hesitant to because I know it takes a bit of time to rebuild up the steam. Any advice would be great as I’m thinking the same could happen with potatoes as well (check them after natural escape and them being underdone). Thanks so much.

Hi Alexa! I am so sorry you had trouble with this recipe. Anytime the food is underdone after cooking in the Instant Pot, it is recommended to set it back for a few minutes. It will have to build up pressure again so make sure there is enough liquid at the bottom. Potatoes are actually easy to be overdone unless you are making baked potatoes. I hope this helps!

Hi! I noticed a couple people asked similar questions as the one I have back in January and last November so I’m wondering if, since then, anyone has made this recipe with a boneless frozen turkey breast and if so did you need to make any adjustments on cooking time??
      Thanks in advance!

I don't often review recipes, but this time I felt compelled to do so. This recipe was FANTASTIC. I followed the directions pretty much to a T, and the turkey was, by far, the best I've ever eaten... juicy and flavorful. The gravy was out of this world. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this great recipe! I can't wait to make it again.

How long do you cook an 8 1/2 almost 9lb bone in turkey breast in a 6qt Pressure Cooker? And do you do a natural release or quick release?

From what I'm reading here, it sounds like you should plan on about 45 minutes. It appears that you're supposed to allow 5 min. per lb. and do a natural release.

I thought this was a great recipe, and will use again! I had a 9 lb. bone-in turkey breast, so I cooked it 50 minutes. I think I could have knocked that down by about 5 minutes - it was plenty done and a tad dry, but the flavor was awesome. Made a gravy from the broth and used arrowroot powder instead of cornstarch, since I'm on an anti-inflammatory diet right now and can't have corn. Thanks!

This was my first attempt using an IP. My turkey breast was about 7.25 lbs.. I followed the recipe as is and this came out so delicious! I cooked it 40 minutes instead of 35 since my turkey breast with a slight bit larger. I put under the broiler to brown the skin a little more for about five minutes. The turkey breast came out perfect, very moist just the right mix of seasonings! I would definitely make this one again

Stacy, I have a 3lb fresh turkey breast that I am planning on 10 minutes max in my IP. Anna had a 7lb turkey that cooked at 35 minutes - this equals 5 minutes per lb. I am cooking mine a little less than 10 min cause it's easier to add cooking time and avoid a dry turkey. Hope it works!!!

Did you cook the turkey you mentioned in your comment? If so, what did you do and how did it work. Thanks

Hi Erica! I did not test this recipe with frozen turkey breast but from my research it seems as it will just take longer to come to pressure and the cooking time should be the same. Always check with meat thermometer to make sure it is cooked through. Sorry if this is no help! Thank you for the question!

How do you adjust times for smaller turkey breast? Or another way to ask, how many minutes per pound? Mine was small, only 2.33 pounds. (I was making it just to have some turkey for a recipe) and went 22 minutes but was really done much sooner.
      thank you,

A million thanks. 5stars. I’m a single guy and not a gourmet cook. I was on my own this holiday season and decided to give your recipe a try. I cooked a 7lb bone in turkey breast in the instant pot, made gravy like you suggested on the sauté setting and used your Garlic Parmesan Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Brown Sugar Roasted Carrots recipes for side dishes. I added homemade mashed potatoes and stuffing (from a box, sorry) and cranberry sauce. The dinner was outstanding. The instructions are on the money and if I can do it anyone can. 35 minutes cook time; internal temp was about 170 degrees. I did put it in the oven for just a short time to brown it up. Excellent recipes. Thanks again.

The time it takes to build is related to the temperature, and mass of what's in the pot. The time it takes to release is also related to what's in the pot. More would hold more heat, so it would take longer to cool down. I cook artichokes, really big artichokes, and after trial and error, I came up with 60 minutes on steam. The cool down was speed up by releasing the pressure from the valve on the pot. That would not be suggested for cooking meat, where you would want the pressure to release slowly.

What a dream! Total prep and cooking time from the moment I put the breast in the pot until the pressure pin dropped was 1-1/2 hours (the 35 minute cooking time on pressure was perfect!)...which means you could be carving and serving this bird within 2 hours! I removed the skin, but the breast meat was moist and flavorful. And, the gravy was delicious. This recipe will make it possible to serve turkey on more than just holidays and special occasions. A keeper, for sure! Thanks for posting!

No, the pot will not start the timer until it reaches the proper pressure. The pressure comes from heating the pot. At first you will hear the steam escape as the pot heats. Once the pot gets hot enough, the pressure will close the valve, then start the timer. This is the process for pressure cooking, the non-pressure modes are what set the Instant Pot apart from conventional pressure cookers.
