This Sauteed Kale with bacon, onion and garlic is a delicious and easy side dish you can make in under 15 minutes. This dish will become your favorite to make with this leafy green vegetable!

This kale is quick and easy to make in one skillet, like my Sauteed Mushrooms or Fried Cabbage recipes!

When a bag of kale ends up in your grocery order, you turn it into a delicious side dish. Like this Sauteed Kale with Bacon! All you need is one skillet and 5 ingredients to make it. It's quick, easy and so flavorful! You can make it up to 3 days in advance because it reheats so well. Serve it with any meat main dish or add sausage and roasted potatoes. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • kale
  • bacon
  • onion
  • garlic
  • salt and pepper

How to saute kale?

  • Start by washing and chopping your kale.
  • Chop bacon, onion and mince garlic.
  • In a skillet, cook bacon until crispy.
  • Add onion and garlic and sautee until golden brown.

  • Season with salt and pepper. Serve.

Can I make this dish ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can prepare the dish, cool completely and place in a container with lid. I like the glass meal prep containers. Keep it in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in a skillet or a microwave.

What to serve with sauteed kale?

This side dish pairs perfectly with pork, chicken or seafood. Here are my favorites:

  • Air Fryer Shrimp
  • Braised Pork Chops
  • Instant Pot Pork Tenderloin
  • Parmesan Crusted Salmon

Variations:

  • spicy: add a chopped jalapeno pepper to onion and garlic
  • cheesy: add ½ cup of freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • creamy: add 4 ounces of softened cream cheese, stir until melted and creamy

Ingredients
 
 

  • 6 cups chopped kale
  • 4 slices of bacon
  • 1 medium yellow onion
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions
 

  • Start by washing and chopping your kale.
  • Chop bacon, onion and mince garlic.
  • In a skillet, cook bacon until crispy.
  • Add onion and garlic and sautee until golden brown.
  • Add kale and sautee until wilted.
  • Season with salt and pepper. Serve.

Notes

  • No need for olive oil. The fat from bacon is perfect for sauteing the veggies!
