Try my Mashed Sweet Potatoes recipe with brown sugar, orange, and cinnamon. They are flavorful, creamy, and perfect for your holiday gatherings!

Serve them with Thanksgiving turkey or Christmas ham this holiday season! This classic side dish has its place right next to green bean casserole and stuffing.

    Easy Mashed Sweet Potatoes

The classic sweet potato casserole is my family's favorite holiday side dish. It's the toasted marshmallow or pecan topping that makes it so good. But when it comes to mashed sweet potatoes, for a long time, I was falling short. It was just lacking flavor. So I set on a mission to make them the best ever and here is the result!

My Mashed Sweet Potatoes are spiced with cinnamon and cloves (don't skip either one!), creamed with butter (no milk or cream), and jazzed up with orange (juiced and zested). I am obsessed with this mix of flavors! It's perfect for the holiday season. Enjoy!

    Ingredients:

    • sweet potatoes
    • butter
    • orange
    • brown sugar
    • cinnamon and cloves

How to make the best mashed sweet potatoes?

    • Start by peeling the potatoes. Cut them into large chunks.
    • Place potato chunks in a pot and add enough water to cover them.
    • Cook over medium heat until soft.
    • Drain the water by pouring potatoes into a colander. Let as much water drip off.
    • Place potatoes back in the same pot, add butter, sugar, orange zest, juice, and spices.
    • Whip with an electric mixer or use a potato masher.
    • Serve warm.

    Storing leftovers and reheating:

Any leftovers should be stored in a container with a lid, in the fridge, for up to 5 days. Reheat them in a microwave or in a pot on the stove. Add more butter or even half and half if needed.

What can I do with leftover mashed sweet potatoes?

If you have leftovers, you can turn them into sweet potato gnocchi or make potato cakes. Mashed sweet potatoes also make for a great casserole topping!

Delicious! I will be using this recipe year after year. I added a streusel topping of pecans, brown sugar, & butter. I also roasted the potatoes which for me was easier than cutting up a hard sweet potato.

Just made this mashed potatoes recipe. It was much easier and quicker than how my mom made it (using roasted potatoes). The addition of brown sugar is a must. Make it friends, it is great!
