Peel the potatoes. Cut them into large chunks and place in a large pot.
2 lbs sweet potatoes
Add enough water to cover the potatoes.
Cook over medium heat until soft, about 15 minutes.
Drain the water by pouring potatoes into a colander set over a sink. Let as much water drip off to prevent watery potatoes.
Place potatoes back in the same pot, add butter, sugar, orange zest, juice, and spices.
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, ¼ cup packed brown sugar, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, 1 orange, ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves
Whip with an electric mixer or use a potato masher.
Serve warm.

Any leftovers should be stored in a container with a lid, in the fridge, for up to 5 days.
Reheat them in a microwave or in a pot on the stove. Add more butter or even half and half if needed.
