Brown Butter Rice Krispies Treats - one little change and you will never go back! The best rice krispies recipe you ever made!

Side shot of three pieces of brown butter rice krispies treats stacked up on each other.

    BROWN BUTTER RICE KRISPIES TREATS

I know what you are thinking. These look like plain ol' boring rice krispies treats. Oh, but they are not! One change takes plain rice krispies treats to a whole new level. I am talking about brown butter. It makes everything better! If you haven't tried it in desserts yet - you are missing out! Brown butter adds a nutty flavor to baked goods and savory dishes. Try tossing your pasta in it - so so so good!!! As soon as you try this recipe - you will never go back! I know I won't! I even used it to make super cute pirate treasure chests for our son's birthday party!

HOW TO MAKE BROWN BUTTER RICE KRISPIES TREATS?

    • Line a 13" by 9" pan with aluminum foil or parchment paper. Set aside.
    • Butter a large bowl. Place cereal in the bowl. This will prevent the mixture from sticking to it.
    • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter. Cook over medium-low heat, until it starts to smell nutty and you can see it turn brownish hue. Add marshmallows and stirring often, cook until almost melted. Remove from the heat, add the extract and stir until all of the marshmallows are melted.
    • Pour the mixture over the cereal. Stir until coated.
    • Press the cereal mixture into the prepared pan. Gently flatten the top. Cool completely.

HOW TO PREVENT A MESS WHEN MAKING RICE KRISPIES TREATS?

Here is a tip I would like to share that prevents the sticky mess when making these treats. Lightly grease the mixing bowl you will use to mix the marshmallow mixture with the cereal. It prevents it from sticking to it and you will get every last delicious bit of the treats into the pan!
