You can serve these biscuits with butter and homemade jam or with Chicken Pot Pie Soup.
7-UP BISCUITS
If you are looking for a new biscuit recipe to try OR simply happen to have some leftover 7-UP lemon-lime soda, I have just the recipe for you! These 7-UP Biscuits are soft, fluffy and literally melt in your mouth. They are super easy to make even without the Bisquick baking mix. These 7-UP Biscuits tastes like fast food biscuits but are made easily from scratch. I don't buy baking mixes like Bisquick so I made its easy homemade version with flour, baking powder, salt and shortening. You have to try it!
How to make 7-UP Biscuits?
Almost all recipes for 7UP Biscuits call for Bisquick. If you have it on hand, by all means, use it. If you don't, all you need is flour, baking powder, salt, and shortening.
- Combine all in a mixing bowl and add sour cream. Stir in.
- Add 7UP and stir well. The dough will be sticky and shaggy.
- Flour your countertop and place the dough onto the surface and shape into a rectangle or square (depending on the baking pan you are using).
- Cut the dough into biscuits.
- Melt butter and place into the baking dish. Place biscuits in butter and bake in 450 degrees F.
- Once done, let them cool and serve while still warm.
- This recipe is very simple and can be easily doubled or even tripled.
How to cut the biscuits?
To cut the biscuits, you can use a round biscuit cutter. Since they are baked in a dish, I wanted to use the whole dough at once. To do that, simply cut the biscuit dough with a knife, into square biscuits. I formed my dough into 9"x7" rectangle and cut it into 8 biscuits.

- ½ cup 7-UP soda room temperature
- ¼ cup butter melted
Instructions

- Place in oven and bake for 16 to 18 minutes or until the tops of the biscuits are golden.
- Remove from oven and let cool.

Just made
These with Greek yogurt instead of cream cheese. Turned out better than I could’ve expected. The yogurt created the tangy flavor I miss in so many different biscuits recipes. I followed everything else to the “T”. 8x8” glass baking pan, 1/2 stick of butter, etc. At the very end as it came out of the oven I did Avery fine spritz of olive oil and added very, very small amounts salt and pepper and garlic powder (almost that you’d never know it was there)
These are on top of my favorite biscuits recipes! Thanks for sharing.

I made these with ginger ale instead of 7-Up. The flavor and texture was incredible, Baking for 2 instead of 5 has always been difficult, but we are having these for a snack and breakfast too! Then, I will have to make them again tomorrow evening. Thank-you so much for the recipe from scratch.
Terri Daleiden says
I am making these for breakfast tomorrow. Can I bake them today and then just warm them when ready to eat?
Anna says
Hi Terri! Yep, they will be just fine. They will be softer, which is normal since they will sit overnight. I hope this helps!
Sue Snider says
They warm great 👍

These were a fave all around the table!! I usually make them with Bisquick, but was all out. I was happy to find a homemade version!! I did not have any shortening so I cut a 1/3 C of cold butter into the flour and proceeded with recipe. So So good, probably because of the extra butter 😏! Turned out great and will definitely make again!
Becky says
I don’t have any sour cream what can I use instead or can I still make them without the sour cream?
Anna says
Hi Becky! You can try buttermilk, but I can't guarantee results as I did not test it with it. Let me know how it goes!
Cathy says
Plain yogurt can be substituted for sour cream easily. I like to use vanilla, but it has more sugar in it. Reduce sugar by 1 tsp is all I do.
Tommyo says
You can mak your own buttermilk with whole milk and
Lemon juice or vinegar. Google it! It’s really easy to make. Plus after you make your buttermilk, you can use the whey to make nice chicken brine for tenderizing breasts or thighs for fried chicken or for fried chicken sandwiches, etc.
Thomas says
Can the dough be made the night before and then baked in the morning ?
Anna says
Hi Thomas! I did not test this recipe making the dough ahead of time. My worry would be that it would dry out too much.

can you use whole wheat flour in recipe instead of white all purpose flour
Abby Lenaeus says
For the butter, do you put that at the bottom of the pan and then place the biscuits on top? Or brush them as you put in?
Stephanie says
I really want to make these, but I don't have any shortening. Can I use something else?
Anna says
Hi Stephanie! You can try it with butter. I hope this helps!
Stephanie says
Thank you! Do you think cold, softened or melted butter?
Anna says
I suggest cold butter. Let me know how it goes!
Melody says
The PERFECT biscuit recipe for brinner biscuits & gravy! So soft!! I've made this recipe twice before and perfect both times.
Paige says
I have 2 questions. Can I use flat soda? And, can I substitute self rising flour for the all purpose flour, salt, and baking powder?
Anna says
Hi Paige! I never used flat soda so I can't guarantee the result. Yes, you can use self-rising flour.

Combined, my husband and I have been on the earth 141 years and we have never tasted biscuits this good! Ha, I think that says it all! I'm so glad to have this recipe. Thanks!

Yesterday, I found a recipe for 7-Up biscuits in our Sunday edition of the local paper and thought it was intriguing. Their recipe called for Bisquick which I didn't have, so I found a recipe for the replacement and made that--which turned out to be a problem since the original biscuit recipe called for 4 cups of Bisquick and I made a 2-cup recipe! So I looked for a 2 cup recipe and ran across yours, which was also easier since the original called for putting the mixed dough onto a cup of Bisquick sprinkled on the counter and kind of mixing the dry Bisquick into the dough which sounded like too much work (it had been a long day)! So I used your recipe and followed your Recipe Notes and the biscuits were the best I have ever had anywhere! I did brush melted butter on the tops after they came out of the oven just because more butter is always better. I have to admit that mine were a little sweet because the Bisquick substitute recipe added 2 T. of sugar, but even that wasn't a deal breaker (although I'll use your recipe next time). My husband even liked them and thought they were a lot like KFC biscuits--I think they're much better! Perfect biscuits and so easy to make. Thanks again!
Anna says
Hi Jacqueline! Yay! That is absolutely wonderful! I am so glad that my recipe helped and that the biscuits were such a hit! Thank you so much!

I am making these on Sunday with a twist because my dish is Italian I'm making adding garlic and herb to them...what do you think?
Anna says
I think that's a great idea! Garlic and herbs will be delicious in these biscuits. Let me know how it goes!
Amy Cook says
I added honey to the melted butter and did them drop style. De-Lish!!

Honey and butter are the best! Thank you so much, Amy!
