Why This Method Works
Summer dinner time just got easier! These Grilled Shrimp are quick to prep and cook. No marinating needed! Just place shrimp on skewers, brush with melted butter with seasoning and garlic, and cook on a hot grill or griddle pan. They are done in minutes!
I like to use skewers because they make flipping the shrimp so much easier. You can add chopped vegetables or sausage too. Make it fun and enjoy the flavors!
If you are enjoying cooking outdoors, my Grilled Pineapple makes for a perfect dessert! The Strawberry Lemonade ties it all together with summer berry flavors.
Ingredients:
Would you like to save this recipe?
- shrimp - I recommend getting the largest you can. Popcorn or small shrimp is too small. I used a medium size.
- butter - I used unsalted butter. Olive oil works great too!
- garlic - I recommend fresh garlic, minced. You can use garlic powder if you are in a pinch.
- Italian seasoning - Adds herby flavor to the shrimp. If you don't have Italian seasoning, use at least dried oregano.
- paprika - Adds tasty flavor.
How to grill shrimp?
- Start by removing the vein and most of the shell. I leave the tails but you can remove them completely.
- Combine butter with seasoning and garlic.
- Skewer shrimp.
- Brush with butter mixture.
- Grill for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until pink.
- Serve immediately.
Best tips for grilling shrimp:
- skewers: metal ones are easy to use and a breeze to clean; wooden ones need to be soaked in water for 30 minutes prior to grilling to prevent them from catching fire
- shrimp: use medium or large; small ones are better for salads
- seasoning: feel free to play with different spices; add crushed red pepper flakes for heat or honey for sweetness
- cook time: shrimp cooks really fast so don't walk away from the grill; watch for them to turn pink and flip to cook the other side; it only takes 2 to 3 minutes!
Sides to serve with grilled shrimp:
Since the shrimp will be done in minutes, I think a side dish that cooks quickly or can be made ahead of time, would be great here. Here are just a few of my suggestions:
- Creamy Polenta
- Dirty Rice
- Sauteed Kale with Bacon
- Sauteed Green Beans or the super-fast Instant Pot version.
