Why This Recipe Works
Leave it to creators on TikTok to figure out a new and delicious snack idea that may sound crazy, but totally works! This viral TikTok recipe for pasta chips made in the air fryer had to happen in my kitchen too. They are surprisingly easy to make and so fun to snack on!
I used bow tie pasta (aka farfalle) and cooked it in boiling, salted water. Next, I tossed it with grated Parmesan cheese and some of my favorite spices. After just 10 minutes, each pasta piece was crispy and golden brown. Delight!
Ingredients:
- pasta: any bite-size pasta works, even broken lasagna noodles;
- oil: olive or grapeseed oil is recommended;
- cheese: freshly-grated Parmesan is perfect and it will add a toasted cheese flavor to the chips;
- seasoning: I used garlic powder and paprika; pasta is cooked in salted water and Parmesan cheese is salty as well so I didn't add any salt; you can season the chips after air-frying too.
How to make pasta chips in the air fryer?
- Start by cooking pasta in boiling water. For this recipe, I cook pasta until completely cooked, not al dente, because we are not mixing it with a sauce to finish cooking it.
- Drain pasta and place in a large mixing bowl.
- Add freshly grated Parmesan cheese and seasoning. Toss gently to coat.
Would you like to save this recipe?

What to serve with air fryer pasta chips?
My favorite dipping sauce for pasta chips is marinara. You can make it easily from scratch with basic ingredients! Next would be garlic aioli or homemade ranch dressing. I think all three options are perfect!
Variations:
- cinnamon sugar: skip the seasoning and cheese; mix 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon; toss with pasta and air fry;
- vegan: use vegan pasta; skip the cheese and use nutritional yeast or mushroom umami seasoning;
- buffalo: toss pasta with hot sauce, oil, and seasoning: garlic powder, chili powder, paprika; air-fry as directed in the recipe below.

Air Fryer Pasta Chips
Ingredients
- 1 cup bow-tie pasta
- 2 teaspoons olive oil
- ½ cups grated Parmesan cheese
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon paprika
Instructions
- In a pasta pot, bring water to a boil. Add ½ teaspoon of salt and pasta. Stir and cook until al dente and then 2 to 3 more minutes.1 cup bow-tie pasta
- Drain pasta and place in a large mixing bowl.
- Add freshly grated Parmesan cheese and seasoning. Toss gently to coat.2 teaspoons olive oil, ½ cups grated Parmesan cheese, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon paprika
- Preheat the air fryer to 400° Fahrenheit.
- Spread pasta in a single layer; it's okay if some of them overlap on the edges. Just don't toss the whole amount of pasta into the air fryer.
- Place basket in the air fryer, press "air fry" setting and set timer to 8 minutes. Shake the basket or turn over the pasta halfway through baking time. Cook for 2 more minutes, if needed.
- Remove pasta chips from air fryer and let them cool.
- Serve with dipping sauce.
Notes
- I find that if the pasta is cooked al dente, the center of the bow tie remains hard and chewy. I prefer the pasta to be cooked past the al dente point for this recipe.
- To bake in the oven: preheat your oven to 380 degrees F and arrange pasta on a large baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes OR until crispy!
