This weekend we celebrated our oldest daughter's birthday.
She is six years-old now which apparently gives a right to call oneself a "big kid" and make your own PB&J's for lunch or choose what clothes to wear today.
The day she was born, we had no idea what being a parent meant, had no confidence in our abilities what so ever. She was our first child and born in the hospital. Our OB/GYN scheduled the day to induced labor because she was going on vacation. Days, even weeks before, we assembled everything we might need for our big day. Unable to sleep the night before we got up early and waited, running over our checklist to make sure every base was covered. At daybreak we went out and loaded up into the minivan. Everything was going well and we felt in control. After a short pep talk that everything was going to go smoothly my Hubby started the car, only it didn't start. We had been running so many errands that week to get ready we neglected to fill up the night before. So.....in a flash my husband digs out a gas can from the garage and proceeds to post the fastest mile he had run in his life. Reflecting back now, sitting in the van and not knowing what was to come and how scary it all was.... I am so glad that we can look back at that day now and actually laugh about it!
Our little girl was born in the afternoon that day, after a quite quick labor. She melted our hearts and hasn't stop since.
She's got her Daddy wrapped around her little finger, just like a little girl should. She is very smart and always eager to learn more. Giving-up is not in her dictionary. She can beat any ole boy on the monkey bars.
It still amazes us that it's been six years since we became a family and how much we have grown since then. We know so much more and trust our abilities as parents. If a doctor wanted to schedule and induce labor because of vacation, we would simply leave their office. We don't drive the mini-van anymore and never have an empty gas tank.
She is the best big sister her siblings could ever have and we couldn't be more proud to call ourselves her parents. Happy Birthday, sweetie pie!
CCC Monday returns next week!
xoxo,
Anna

Oh my that is just the most precious photo of your daughter.
A very funny birth story to go along with it. I think I would have loved to have been a neighbor watching your husband run down the street like that.
Sorry this is late, but Happy Birthday all the same 🙂

Awwww, Happy Birthday to your little girl! I can see how she must make you very proud! They grow up fast don't they.... Every time I look at my two kids I am amazed that those tiny little babies we came home from the hospital with are these independent little kids today. I know you must cherish the memories like I do. 🙂
