When I started this blog, little did I know that besides expanding my baking skills, it would also become a source of a new passion for me. A passion for food photography. I've always loved to shoot pictures of my kiddos, but this was something absolutely new to me. I had so much to learn.
I love styled photos that tell a story. Photos that make you feel like you are getting a glimpse into someone's home, someone's kitchen, a real setting. I admire photographers that achieve that.
A quote from Marcus Nilsson that appeared in the latest issue of the "American Photo" magazine, puts it quite well: "I pretend that I'm walking into this restaurant, or this cafe or someone's home or whatever, and I just saw this and took a picture. I want you to feel the experience of the meal or of preparing it. [...] it's not just a picture of someone's untouched plate". Nilsson is a food photographer that likes to get into the set up before taking pictures: "You touch things, you move things, change the light and the angle, and all of a sudden it all comes together[...]."
Someday, I hope I will get to the point where things "just come together". There were pictures I took that I felt like things magically aligned, the photography gods were on my side that day and I took some good photos. But most often I tend to over think the set up. That can quickly lead to frustration and dissatisfaction. I want the food to be the star (it's a food blog after all), yet make the viewer feel something more than just hunger from looking at it. 🙂 I want them to evoke feelings like comfort, hospitality, happiness. I want the viewer to feel invited to the table and welcome to enjoy the food.
Even though, I feel like I'm finding my style and getting more comfortable with settings and styling, I am NOT there yet. So why write this post, you may wonder? Simply because I know that a lot of my fellow food bloggers share the same passion for photography. We seem to constantly be in search for new sources of inspiration and want to learn more from the ones we already admire. This is simply a list (a very narrowed down list) of a constant inspiration for me. And I want to share it with you.
Pinterest, as the visual social media, can be a gold mine for bloggers like me, that like to have the inspiration at their finger tips. It let's you scroll through gorgeous photos and let the juices flow. I refer to it very often, especially when I feel in a rut or feel stuck with an idea.
Get ready for some serious eye candy!

I love that quote by Marcus Nilsson. I love the photography part of blogging, but I struggle with it so much, I want to be so much better at it than I am. I love Jen's food styling pin board, it's my favorite.
