The time has come for these to appear on the series. The famous New York Times Chocolate Chip Cookies happened in my kitchen. And you know what? I am not impressed.
Nope. Sorry. They are a good cookies but to me, they are far from perfect. I had high expectations. After making these, how could I not have? As I was shaping the dough on my cookie sheet, I knew they were too big. When they came out of the oven, the looks were disappointing. After we took a bite... meh. Just a regular cookie. No wow factor.
Few things about this recipe:
- it calls for types of flour I wouldn't normally have in my pantry
- makes an enormous cookie, quite overwhelming to eat; I made only 4 cookies the size called for in the original recipe and about 10 regular size cookies as
Would you like to save this recipe?
- they don't look as tempting as other types I have made in this series.
But I wanted to give them a try. And you should too if you are a huge chocolate chip cookie fan.
The original recipe can be found here. I followed the recipe exactly.
I have only one more recipe to go and the series will be completed. I can already say, we found our favorite. But I will leave the final thoughts to my last post in the series.

Too bad this wasn't the cookie you thought it was! I'm loving your reviews though - it's like you're doing all of the hard work for the rest of us in finding the perfect cookie! 🙂

I'm glad to hear your very experienced opinion on these...I haven't tried them yet, partly because I was afraid they wouldn't live up to the hype. And how can anything beat those Cook's Illustrated beauties?

I love seeing a new chocolate chip cookie recipe at the beginning of each week! I'm going to see my brother this weekend and he loves chocolate chip cookies. I'm trying to decide which ones to make him! I'll be spending a lot of time on your site the next couple of days! 🙂

It's a shame you didn't like them as much as you'd hoped but something has to lose I suppose!

Well a mediocre CCC is always better than none at all. But I think Cook's Illustrated/America's Test Kitchen will always win. How can you beat all their testing?

I love that you take all the work out of finding the very best, most perfect CCC recipe for us. 🙂 I have enjoyed this series a ton, and I can't wait for the last wrap-up post and hear about your favorite!

I guess this is akin to "you can't win them all." Sorry that these were a disappointment, but I look forward to the final recipe and then the selection of your favorite 🙂
