Texas Sheet Cake - a classic chocolate cake with buttermilk frosting. Super easy cake to satisfy your sweet tooth!
TEXAS SHEET CAKE
Let's make a sheet cake! Chocolate buttermilk sheet cake with chocolate buttermilk frosting, called the Texas sheet cake. One of my favorite chocolate cakes. It is the sheet cake. Always sure to please, easy to make and the frosting is lick-the-bowl good! It's as easy to make as my Busy Day Chocolate Cake and as delicious as my Best Chocolate Bundt Cake.
HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE SHEET CAKE?
-
Grease a large sheet pan (I used 15"x10" pan) and preheat the oven.
-
In a medium bowl whisk together the dry ingredients. Set aside.
-
Place butter, cocoa powder and water in a medium saucepan and cook until starts to bubble. Stir constantly. Remove from the heat.
-
Pour the cocoa butter mixture into a large mixing bowl of a stand mixer, and mix on low speed for 2 to 3 minutes. It will be hot so be careful!
-
Increase the speed to medium and wet ingredients. Beat well after each addition. Beat the batter for about 1 minute. It will be thin.
-
Pour the batter into prepared pan.
-
Bake until the toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Pour frosting on top and let set.

Anna, I love the light, delicate crumb of your cake! And that frosting is divine. It set so beautifully. You can never go wrong with a chocolate sheet cake. I hope you get to Texas soon but fully endorse using this cake as a substitute until then 😉

That's the plan 🙂 Thanks so much, Nancy!

My Mother used to make this ages ago....her recipe was called Metrecal Cake. Metrecal was diet food product from the 60's. And of course this cake was the antidote to dieters. Its a simple cake, easy and very tasty. The glossy top makes a great canvas for decorating. We still make it today. For the cocoa in cake, looks like a word is missing. Should be 1/3 cup. Be sure to try this

Texas sheet cake is a recipe that I keep running into, but never formally shakes my oven mitt (must be that Texan swagger!). 😀 This particular recipe looks scrumptious!!
p.s. I don't like nuts in my baked goods either - good to know I'm not alone.
