Easy Dry Rub for Grilling
Grilling season is here! I don't know but you but I like to have a blend of spices for grilling meats and veggies, but the store-bought kinds are full of fillers and never exactly what I like in terms of flavor.
The homemade mix is just so easy to make and I always have the ingredients on hand. Besides, I can adjust it by adding other spices, like crushed red pepper flakes or cayenne if I want more heat.
Ingredients:
- brown sugar
- paprika
- salt and pepper
- garlic powder
- onion powder
- cumin
How to make Dry Rub from scratch?
- Measure out brown sugar and spices.
- Combine in a bowl and whisk.
- Place in a ziploc bag or a glass jar with lid.

How soon before cooking do you apply rub?
I recommend applying rub at least 30 minutes before grilling. It will give it a chance to mix with the natural juices and stick to the meat. Sprinkle the rub over meat, then rub it in with your hands. Let the meat rest while you preheat the grill.
Can I leave a dry rub on meat overnight?
Yes! Apply rub to meat, then cover it and refrigerate overnight. On the day of cooking, let the meat come to room temperature, reapply any rub mixture that gathered at the bottom of the dish.
Can I use it on vegetables?
Absolutely! This rub is delicious with potatoes, zucchini, peppers, onions, cauliflower etc.
