You know how sometimes you run out of ingredients that you'd swear you had? You start on your baking project only to find you don't have that powdered sugar.

Yep, that was me yesterday.

No way I'm going to the store, because that would involve changing from my yoga pants and my favorite t-shirt. You know, the t-shirt that screams "I have three kids and I love to bake". Yeah....

Would you like to save this recipe?

We'll email this post to you, so you can come back to it later!

Anyways, I was rescued from embarrassment and want to simply pay it forward. Call it what you want, today's Kitchen Know-How is about homemade powdered sugar.

Remember the peach galette? I used the rest of my store-bought powdered sugar as a finishing touch on the slices. Totally distracted by the deliciousness of the mentioned pie, I forgot to add the sugar to my grocery list.

Internet to the rescue. Homemade powdered sugar in seconds. Now I can finish my baking project. Yoga pants and all.

Heh? I did not know that this is how you make powdered sugar!! Unlike everyone who runs out of powder sugar, I (I'm not much of a baker) normally don't use it so I want to make this whenever I need it, instead of buying a huge bag of powder sugar. THANK YOU Anna!

Well there is something I need to bookmark...because I have failed to make a couple of things for lack of powdered sugar (and not wanting to change out of my yoga pants and favorite t-shirt).
Thanks so much for the helpful tip Anna!

Fabulous idea! Before I moved, I lived across the street from 7-11, so I could always run out if I forgot any groceries, like sugar. Now, I'm a drive away from everything, so tricks like this will definitely help in a pinch!

You have more class than I do! I appear at the grocery store in yoga pants and four smears more often than I'd care to admit! Great tip...I've made superfine sugar, but never powdered sugar 🙂

I've seen how to do this before. It's a great time/money saver. I'm too lazy to try it yet but I will.

I've heard that you have to be careful when doing this because the blades can get hot from the friction and sometimes the sugar can melt and mess things up.

Did you have any problems with the blades heating at all?

Wow! I have never heard of this happening... Thank you, Lisa.

Anna! Who knew?! Wow, this is just a fabulous idea! I've been in that predicament before and shameless dashed off to the store with puffs of flour and smears of chocolate on my tee shirt! I may never buy powdered sugar again! : )

Thank you so much. For as many cakes as I bake I tend to run out of powdered sugar more than I should
