Learn How to Make Bread Crumbs at home for frying chicken, chops or vegetables! I am sharing my simple method along with Italian and panko variations. This is a must-have in your pantry!
Place slices of bread on a baking sheet. I placed 6 slices on each.
Bake in the oven for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, flip them and toast for 3 to 5 more minutes. You don't want them browned but dry.
Remove bread from oven and cool for a few minutes. Do not turn off your oven.
Cut or rip bread slices into chunks. Place all in food processor and pulse until you reach your desired texture.
Spread bread crumbs back on the baking sheets and bake for 5 minutes.
Let them cool and then place in a container. I like to pulse them a few more times in the food processor for finer crumbs.
Notes
One serving is ¼ cup of bread crumbs, enough to bread 4 chicken cutlets.
I use fresh bread but stale is even better! Use gluten-free, whole wheat, low-carb, even hamburger buns. Whatever you like!
This recipe makes about 15 ounces of bread crumbs, as much as in a typical store-bought bread crumbs container.
If you don’t have a food processor or a mini chopper, you can place the toasted bread in a ziploc bag and crush it with a rolling pin.
