HOW TO MAKE DORITO TACO SALAD?
Taco salad is like a deconstructed tacos by tossing your favorite toppings, seasoned meat and broken up Dorito chips. I used Romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, shredded cheddar, chopped red onion and black beans.
I stopped buying canned black beans because I can easily make a big batch of them in my Instant Pot. For instructions, follow my Instant Pot Black Beans recipe. It’s a fail-proof method and works every time. You need 1 cup of black beans for this salad recipe, or use one 15 oz. can. Don’t forget to rinse and drain the beans well.
SUBSTITUTIONS IN THIS RECIPE:
I always love to hear from our readers who make our recipes and use ingredients they have on hand in substitutions for those stated in the recipe. So play with this Dorito Taco Salad recipe and use ground beef OR ground turkey, chicken on cubed chicken. You can also skip the meat all together and make this into a vegetarian meal. Skip cheddar and use shredded Pepper Jack for added heat. Add avocado, black olives, chopped bell peppers or jalapeno pepper, drizzle it all with nacho sauce, whatever your heart desires.
WHAT DRESSING TO USE IN TACO SALAD?
To bring all of the ingredients together, I used the dressing recipe from my Black Bean Taco Salad. It’s a simple mix of salsa, sour cream and ground cumin. For another option, you can use Catalina Salad Dressing.
CAN YOU MAKE TACO SALAD AHEAD OF TIME?
Absolutely! Simply toss the chopped veggies together and keep in a glass bowl covered with saran wrap. Cook meat with seasoning and beans and store in a separate container with lid. Heat up meat mixture before serving.
