I have recently read an article on food trends from 2012 that people are tired off. Among them was baker’s twine, cake mix, cake pops and treats stuffed with treats.

That had me thinking. So, today I have a question for you, my dear readers.

What is your stand on stuffed treats?

I have been looking at all the posts from the last year and noticed that I never made a cupcake stuffed with candy. No stuffed cookies or cakes either. There seemed to be a trend to stuff everything ( especially with Oreos ) and I never quite got on it.

Does it make me a boring blogger? Are you bored to see sweet rolls, breads, simple cookies? I love chocolate drizzle here and there or to glaze my muffins or cakes generously.

Just not stuff things with things. I love layered desserts, where everything compliments each other, but I am not sure how you can enjoy a cupcake that has a sandwich cookie inside. Maybe I am just weird like that…

Anyhow, how about oatmeal. We love oatmeal around here and I have been having a baked version on my mind for a while now. The fact that we recently received a box of pears from Harry and David’s helped me here quite a bit. These delicious pears had to make an appearance. Which means I got lucky saving a couple for my baked oatmeal. The rest was disappearing quickly among my kiddos and the Hubs. icon smile Caramel Pear Brown Butter Baked Oatmeal

So in case you are trying to get your breakfast out of boring, here is an idea for you.

Caramel pears and brown butter baked oatmeal.

Brown butter is the trend I definitely follow and will for a while. Caramelizing a fruit and adding it to oatmeal with a drizzle of brown butter – now that’s a breakfast! Add a dollop of Greek yogurt and a sprinkle of freshly grated nutmeg or cinnamon and serve.

I read that article, and I took it pretty light heartedly. It was amazing how many people go SO upset over it. The way I see it, if you are offend by an opinion peice that doesn’t even mention you specifically, you will have a hard time as a blogger, people can be mean! Overall, I’m sick of most of the things she mentioned but I’ll never stop eating Quinoa, it’s so good for you! I like a stuffed treat that’s creative and great. Not just a gimmick to get traffic. I’m sick of things stuffed with Oreos because its not creative, it’s overdone. But if someone wants to blog that, great. I love your posts because they seem tried and true, not fad baking. And your photos are always lovely

    • CrunchyCreamySw

So well said, Jackie. I thought the tone of the article was quite obvious, apparently not for everyone. And thank you for such kind words about my blog. xoxo

omgosh!! I read the title of this post and immediately started drooling. What a great way to make oatmeal. Who could have a bad day after starting it with something so tasty?

    • CrunchyCreamySw

And it goes fast too! :) Thanks, Kristy! xoxo

I do make a cupcake that has an Oreo wafer on the bottom, and Oreos in the buttercream – and they’re pretty killer. But, I can’t do too much with stuffed desserts further than that. To me, good eats is good eats – and will never go out of style.

That being said, this oatmeal looks fabulous. I’m always looking for new breakfast ideas, and we loved baked oatmeal in our home!

    • CrunchyCreamySw

“good eats is good eats” <— yes! Love this! Your cupcakes are gorgeous! Thanks, Laura!

  • Nancy

lmao I loved the article on food trends. I actually didn’t incorporate any of those trends in my posts (except for one post on quinoa) so I guess that makes me a boring blogger too ;) Seriously though, I love your blog and you can never go wrong with the classics. Your twist on oatmeal is brilliant – this looks so hearty and flavourful. While I enjoy oatmeal, I sometimes have to force myself to eat it. There’d be no hesitation in hoovering a bowl of this!

    • CrunchyCreamySw

You are sooo not a boring blogger, Nancy! Your treats are so tempting and I laugh every time I read your posts. :) As much as great oatmeal is – it can get boring fast. I think you will love this version, Nancy! Thank you for your kind words about my blog! xoxo

I love your oatmeal, and I would eat it Possibly every day!

As to Kristina’s article on trends, I’m totally on board with all of them. Although I too will continue to eat quinoa! I get tired of the fads, and I get grumpy when real good honest food is passed over for a boxed cake mix cookie pop because it is crammed in a jar with twine around it. :)

    • CrunchyCreamySw

lol And to think I almost bought baker’s twine for my Christmas treats! :) Thank you, Jenni!

  • http://twitter.com/BakerByNature Ashley

You are totally not a boring blogger, my dear! I’m always *stuffed with inspiration when I leave your lovely corner of the web ;-)

    • CrunchyCreamySw

Awww, you are so sweet :) Thank you, Ashley. xoxo

  • Paula @ Vintage Kitchen

Being in favor or against an article about trends is what makes food blogging interesting. A blog is personal and even though we try to get as many others to read it as possible, we can post whatever we want. I will never understand cake pops for example, besides that they are cute for a child´s party, but I find it great that there are those who build a large audience around them. There are many who will find your blog amazing, like myself, and many who won´t. Because our styles probably complement or appeal to us. There are a million food blogs, choose those you like and stay away from those you don´t. There´s no need to be against or in favor of anything.
Wow, that was long! Sorry! By the way, the only time I had to stuff a cookie for a challenge, I made it in mini muffin pans. So they were stuffed bites, not cookies. Guess I´m pretty boring and old fashioned, but that´s my style of baking.

    • CrunchyCreamySw

I don’t think you are boring at all, Paula. I always swoon over your treats! Thanks for the comment!

  • http://twitter.com/SallysBakeBlog Sally

This is one breakfast I wouldn’t mind waking up to in a heartbeat. Pretty sure i’d jump out of bed with bells on my toes for this. The combination of flavors sounds heavenly and I’m not sure I’ve ever had caramel and pear together. I’m intrigued. A must try!

    • CrunchyCreamySw

Yes! Especially that you can make it the night before and refrigerate till morning! Thank you, Sally!

  • Amanda @ Once Upon a Recipe

Sounds fantastic Anna. I am a big oatmeal fan, especially the baked variety. I have never made stuffed treats either…in fact, I don’t think I’ve ever even tried a stuffed cookie or cupcake! If I’m missing something then I don’t know it!

    • CrunchyCreamySw

      lol Thank you, Amanda!

  • Jean Pope

I don’t think I’ve ever stuffed anything either. Love this wonderful idea for oatmeal. Baked! I’ve never even considered it but I really do like it!

    • CrunchyCreamySw

Yay! I hope you will try it, Jean! Thank you!

  • http://twitter.com/Tutti_Dolci Tutti Dolci

Mornings would seem much brighter with this oatmeal! Love the flavors, it would be perfect with my morning coffee!

    • CrunchyCreamySw

Oh yes, it totally is. :) Thank you, Laura!

  • Anne B

Anna….this looks luscious! I LOVE oatmeal and I eat it all year round. So I’m always happy to find ways to switch it up! It’s a trend I’ll never lose! As for stuffing things…I never got that. Sometimes less IS more! : )

    • CrunchyCreamySw

Totally agree! I love oatmeal too and always have boxes of it in my pantry. :) Thank you so much, my friend! xoxo

  • http://twitter.com/hiddenponies Anna Nienhuis

I’m with you on the stuffing :) I’ve yet to try baked oatmeal because I dislike regular oatmeal so much…but it looks SO much better baked!

    • CrunchyCreamySw

Oooh, if this recipe will make you into a oatmeal fan than my mission is accomplished :) Give it a try – you will love it! Thank you, sweet Anna!

  • Nicole Pearce

I would take this bowl of oatmeal of a stuffed anything any day. I never understood the trend, and now apparently Oreos are “slutty”. I have seen three recipes with Oreos in them that were called slutty. What’s with that? I supposed you could make some slutty oatmeal if you wanted to be like everyone else. (I hope not) In any case, I have a box of pears coming next week and your oatmeal is the first thing on the list to make with them.

    • CrunchyCreamySw

Yes, I have seen those too… Not sure if I want my dessert to be called that way. :) I hope you will try this oatmeal idea with pears you will get. It’s fabulous! Thank you, Nicole!

  • curryandcomfort

Tread or no tread… I simply love Food! :) If it’s tasty, fun or creative, I’m there with my fork, spoon and knife. :) I have yet to try biscoff… so if you think you are boring… I’m ahead of the the line. :) I love a clever oatmeal like this. I don’t care for oatmeal very much… so the more fun you make it for me… the more I will want to eat it. :) Pears, brown butter, caramel… yes.. now that’s a tread I’ll enjoy. :)

    • CrunchyCreamySw

lol I won my first jar of Biscoff in a giveaway so I say it was a luck for me :) I hope you will give baked oatmeal a try, Ramona. I think you will love it! Thank you!

  • Amy (Savory Moments)

Oh wow – this looks almost dessert worthy, especially with the delicious brown butter! How delicious!

    • CrunchyCreamySw

Breakfast and dessert – win win! Thanks, Amy!

  • http://www.a-kitchen-addiction.com/ Jessica_AKitchenAddiction

I love the pear and caramel combination! Waking up to this baked oatmeal would definitely help me get up in the morning! :)

    • CrunchyCreamySw

And don’t we all need that on dark Winter mornings! Thanks, Jessica!

  • Erika @Southern Girls Kitchen

Caramel Pear Brown Butter Baked Oatmeal is far from boring.. drool-worthy is more like it..

lol I am so glad you think so, Erika! Thank you!

    • CrunchyCreamySw

      Thank you, Dawn!

  • Tiffany/MyCrowdedKitchen

I’m with you, I never jumped on that wagon with the stuffed treats. :) This sounds wonderful!

    • CrunchyCreamySw

      Thank you, Tiffany!

  • Jill@MadAboutMacarons

Hehe, couldn’t agree more with you! Love the look of this oatmeal. Sure beats boring porridge any day. Great start to 2013 – sweet New Year to you!

Thank you so much, Jill! So happy to see you here!

  • http://twitter.com/thelady8home Minnie Gupta

I could have this for dinner!! And hey, I have no problem with stuffed treats of any kind, especially the ones made by you :) . I liked the article though….it did have some funny, some genuine points to make.

    • CrunchyCreamySw

Yes, it did :) Thanks, Minnie!

  • http://twitter.com/TheSpicedLife Laura T

YUM to the oatmeal. NAY to the stuffed treats. Same with cake mix frankly. And YAY to the browned butter–that was on my list for 2012 and i too have no interest in leaving that trend any time soon. :)

    • CrunchyCreamySw

Yay to browned butter! Thanks, Laura!

  • krkapple

This oatmeal is so up my alley. I love, love, LOVE pears, especially soft, sweet baked ones. As for stuffed stuff, I’m generally in the “no thank you” camp. I didn’t post a single Oreo-stuffed anything last year and I didn’t really want to.

    • CrunchyCreamySw

I love pears too! They were fabulous for this recipe! Thank you so much!

  • http://twitter.com/lauralovesbakes Laura Loves Bakes

Yum…this would definitely take breakfast out of boring…it looks delicious! :-)
